How does the vocabulary test work?
You see English words one at a time and say whether you know each one. The words come from different frequency levels, from the most common words to rare ones. From your answers we estimate how many of the 14,000 most common English words you know.
Why are some words not real?
A few invented words are mixed in. If you say you know them, we know you were guessing and lower your estimate a little. Only say “I know it” when you could explain the meaning or use the word in a sentence.
How many English words do I need?
Roughly 2,000–3,000 words cover everyday conversation (B1), 4,000–5,000 words let you read most general texts and do well in IELTS (B2–C1), and 8,000 or more is advanced (C2).
Is the result exact?
No. It is an estimate to show your level and progress. Take the test again in a month to see how your vocabulary is growing.
